Just to hear your voice

I love living here in Italy, don’t get me wrong, but there are times when it can be quite isolating. Living in Italy can feel like I’m swimming in very rough waters and just hardly keeping my head up enough to gasp. I have all the words needed for survival, but not all the vocabulary for deep, meaningful conversation. Sometimes I wonder if I’m ever going to really learn, or if I’ll just keep afloat long enough to get flushed out into calmer waters next January. Through dinners, late evenings, movies, the radio, and phone calls, my Italian has improved drastically over the past few months. Still, I never realized just how precious your voices all are to me. I miss you guys.
